PE Team Information

Overall Focus

We provide an extensive range of sporting opportunities, both within and outside lessons, and aim to encourage all learners to take up the opportunities available to them. We place great emphasis on the physical, personal and social development of learners, with the intention of providing skills and interests which will extend into adult life. Sport plays an important part in this process.

KS3 (Field)

3 lessons – 2 Games and 1 PE lesson

Sports – Football, Rugby, Netball, Basketball, Gymnastics, Dance, Health and Fitness, Rounders, Cricket, Athletics and Baseball

Fitness Testing – Mulit-Stage Fitness Test, Illinois Agility Test and Hand Eye Wall Toss

KS4 (Sports Hall)

2 lessons

Sports – Football, Netball, Basketball, Dance, Health and Fitness, Badminton, Rounders, Athletics and Baseball

Girls Kit - Polo shirt, Skort Shorts, Leggings, Socks, Hoodie(optional), Sports trainers for all PE and Games lessons

Boys Kit – T-shirt, Shorts, Jogging Bottoms, Socks, Hoodie (optional), Sports trainers for most Games/PE lessons and boots for Rugby/Football


Examination Classes (A35)

Level 2 BTEC Sport Studies – Equivalent to 1 GCSE

Combination of practical and theory work where overall grade is taken from an exam, coursework, and practical assessment

Modules such as Fitness Testing and Training, Practical Sport, and Leading Sport

Level 3 BTEC Sports Coaching

Run three courses which are the equivalent to one, two, or three A-Levels

Mixture of theory and practical and is assessed through coursework only

Newport County AFC Academy (County Office)

Based at our school in the PE department they are onsite all week where they have all their training, fitness, and education sessions and we work closely together to build the quality of football and sport at Lliswerry High School

Extra-Curricular (PE Corridor)

We offer extra-curricular clubs at lunch times and after-school such as football, rugby, basketball, netball, athletics, dodgeball, and fitness

We have teams who compete against other schools in football, netball, basketball, cross country, and athletics.

We also run inter-house competitions in various sports and an annual ski trip which where we have been taking learners to Austria, Italy, and France for nearly 15 years which is always a highlight of learners time at Lliswery High School.
