What is the Skills Challenge Certificate (SCC)
The Skills Challenge Certificate or SCC is a compulsory qualification, it is taught to KS4 and KS5 learners. The Skills Challenge Certificate (SCC) is a stand alone, graded qualification and is valued as a GCSE or A Level equivalent and is taken alongside GCSEs or A Levels. It can be achieved and awarded without the supporting qualifications that comprise the Welsh Baccalaureate.
At Foundation and National levels, the Skills Challenge Certificate is the same size as a GCSE, and at Advanced level the Skills Challenge Certificate is the same size as an A level.
Skills
The central focus of the Skills Challenge Certificate is to provide a vehicle for 14-16 year olds to consolidate & develop essential & employability skills, including Communication, Numeracy, Digital Literacy, Planning and Organisation, Critical Thinking and Problem Solving, Personal Effectiveness, Creativity and Innovation.
Teaching and Learning
We build excellent relationships with learners and this helps learners to enjoy their Skills Challenge lessons. The qualification comprises of four components: the individual project, which allows learners the opportunity to research a topic of their choice that they are passionate about investigating. The global challenge provides learners with the opportunity to develop their knowledge of the world and the impact of issues on a worldwide scale. The enterprise challenge allows learners to develop their communication skills through teamwork where they produce market research and develop a business proposal. Finally, the community challenge encourages learners to identify a need in their community and provide support to make a positive impact on improving their community.
Assessment and Feedback
The SCC teaching and learning is assessed to ensure learners understanding and all challenge work along with the individual project are done under control conditions following the exam board guides.
